Tier 2 // Specialized Content Architecture

Headless CMS & Strapi Architecture.
Decoupled Content Systems. On-Demand ISR. 100/100 Core Web Vitals.

Legacy monolithic content management systems couple content editing directly with presentation templates, creating sluggish page loads, severe security vulnerabilities, and painful multi-channel publishing bottlenecks.

I architect and build enterprise decoupled Headless CMS solutions using Strapi, embedded Payload CMS 3, and Next.js 16. By separating your content repository from your presentation layer via structured REST and GraphQL APIs, content editors gain a customized publishing suite while your frontend delivers instantaneous sub-second load times and perfect 100/100 Core Web Vitals.

As engineered on the Wood Play international platform, this architecture features tag-based on-demand ISR cache invalidation (revalidateTag) that updates static pages across the globe within seconds of an editor publishing, paired with multi-language localized path routing across 7 languages and a zero-downtime in-code fallback layer.

Whether you need to migrate from legacy WordPress to Strapi, build an omnichannel publishing engine, or embed a headless CMS directly into your Next.js application, I deliver clean, scalable content engineering.

Why Choose Me

Why choose my headless CMS architecture?

On-Demand Tag-Based ISR Caching

Using Next.js revalidateTag and webhook listeners, static HTML pages are regenerated on-demand at the CDN edge the instant content is published, eliminating build queues and cache lag.

Zero-Downtime Static Fallback Layer

Resilient in-code fallback datasets ensure that if your CMS backend or database experiences maintenance or network blips, your public storefront serves cached static content without 500 errors.

Custom Content Modeling & Types

Tailored schemas, relational collections, and global settings designed specifically around your editorial workflow with zero unnecessary bloat.

Multi-Language & Multi-Script Localization

Deep i18n localization supporting market-specific pathnames (/en/rent, /de/mieten, /es/alquiler) and automated Cyrillic-to-Latin script transliteration pipelines.

Granular Editor Permissions & RBAC

Role-based editorial workflows allowing copywriters, translators, and administrators to work concurrently with draft preview stages.

Complete Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)

Content models structured with Schema.org entity graphs, machine-readable summaries, and breadcrumbs optimized for Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT Search.

In Depth

Decoupling for scale and resilience.

In modern digital commerce and publishing, content must flow seamlessly to websites, mobile apps, email campaigns, and generative AI search engines. Rigid monolithic platforms force businesses to duplicate content entry across multiple disconnected backends.

On the Wood Play platform, our challenge was uniting four distinct business operations — eCommerce retail, event equipment rentals, video course LMS, and diagnostic family testing — across 7 languages. Implementing embedded Payload CMS 3 within Next.js 16 allowed us to maintain a single unified database with 13 collections and 19 globals.

Crucially, pairing this with a static fallback layer ensures that even if database connections fluctuate, the website never throws a 500 error to a paying customer. Pages load from edge cache in under 600ms.

A properly engineered Headless CMS is not just a technology upgrade — it is an organizational asset that empowers marketing teams to publish freely while engineering maintains absolute performance and security.

FAQ

Common questions.
Clear answers.

What is the main advantage of a Headless CMS over traditional WordPress?
A Headless CMS decouples content storage from presentation. Your content is delivered via clean APIs to a modern, static Next.js frontend. This eliminates WordPress plugin security exploits, speeds up page load times to under 1 second, allows simultaneous publishing to web and mobile apps, and guarantees perfect Core Web Vitals.
How does on-demand ISR (Incremental Static Regeneration) work?
When an editor updates a product or blog post in Strapi or Payload, a webhook triggers revalidateTag in Next.js. The edge CDN invalidates only the specific page that changed and regenerates it in the background, serving fresh content without rebuilding the entire website.
Can our marketing team preview draft content before publishing?
Yes. I implement secure Next.js Draft Mode with secret preview tokens, allowing editors to view private, draft revisions of articles and landing pages directly within the live production layout before pushing them public.
Which Headless CMS do you recommend: Strapi or Payload CMS?
Strapi is ideal when you need an independent, standalone Node.js CMS microservice with a rich admin UI and plugin marketplace. Payload CMS 3 is exceptional when you want the CMS embedded directly within your Next.js application, sharing the same TypeScript types, database, and process for maximum performance and minimal infrastructure overhead.
